Preparing for a Leave
of Absence

Managers and colleagues should work together to plan for a smooth transition during any leave of absence, making sure everyone feels supported before, during, and after the time away.

We encourage you to use the checklists below to prepare for a leave of absence.

Family and Medical
Leave Act (FMLA)

FMLA provides eligible colleagues with up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave while maintaining health benefits. FMLA can be used after the birth or adoption of a child, to care for an immediate family member, or as a medical leave due to a serious health condition.

Disability Claims

Short-term and long-term disability benefits may be used to provide financial assistance for colleagues experiencing a non-work related illness or injury. Claims should be filed through MetLife.
